Privacy Policy
Maxzero is built to keep your music and your data under your control. This policy explains, in plain language, what that means. It covers Maxzero for iPhone and iPad, and Maxzero for Android.
Last updated: October 4, 2026
The short version
Maxzero does not collect, sell, or share your personal data. There are no Maxzero accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no Maxzero servers. Your music stays on your device or on servers you choose. Any backup or sync of your library settings goes through your own iCloud or Google account, which we cannot access.
What stays on your device
Your music, your play queue, songs cached from media servers, and your media server sign-in details are stored only on your device.
- iPhone & iPad: music you import and the folders you organize it into are kept inside the app. Sign-in details for Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, and WebDAV are kept in the iOS Keychain and are never synced.
- Android: Maxzero plays the music already stored on your phone, where it is; it doesn't copy it or send it anywhere. Server sign-in details are encrypted using the Android Keystore and are never included in backups.
Access to your music
Apple Music iPhone & iPad
If you grant access to your Apple Music library, Maxzero reads your downloaded music so it can play and organize it within Maxzero. It never changes anything in the Apple Music app. This access is handled entirely by Apple's frameworks on your device, and you can withdraw it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Media & Apple Music.
Music and audio permission Android
Maxzero asks for permission to read the music and audio files on your phone so it can list and play them. It reads only audio files, and your library shows only the folders you choose in Library Folders. Maxzero changes or deletes a file only when you choose Delete, and Android asks you to confirm first. You can withdraw this permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Maxzero → Permissions.
Sync and backup
iCloud sync iPhone & iPad
If you are signed in to iCloud, Maxzero uses Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to keep the following in step across your iPhone and iPad:
- Playlists and favorites
- Listening history (play counts)
- Tag edits, lyrics, and custom artwork you add
- Equalizer, crossfade, and theme settings
This information is stored in your own private iCloud database. It is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and Maxzero's developer has no access to it. Your music files themselves are not uploaded to iCloud. If you are not signed in to iCloud, everything stays on your device.
Google backup Android
Maxzero for Android doesn't sync between devices. If you have Android backup turned on, Android includes Maxzero's playlists, favorites, play counts, tag edits, lyrics, and settings in your device backup to your Google account, so they can be restored on a new phone. Server sign-in details are never included. This backup is handled by Google under Google's privacy policy, and Maxzero's developer has no access to it. You can turn backup off in Android Settings.
Data is not shared between the iPhone/iPad and Android versions of Maxzero.
Media servers and WebDAV
If you connect a Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, or WebDAV server, Maxzero communicates directly with that server to browse and play your music, using the details you enter. Songs are downloaded to a temporary cache on your device as they play. When you sign in with Plex, you sign in on Plex's own website (plex.tv); Maxzero receives an access token, never your Plex password. Your use of these services is governed by their own privacy policies.
Choosing Disconnect deletes that server's saved sign-in and cached files from your device.
Album artwork lookup
If you turn on Download missing album artwork, or use Select Cover Art to choose a cover, Maxzero sends a song's artist, album, and title to Apple's iTunes Search service and, if no match is found, to MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive, solely to find a matching cover. No information that identifies you is sent. The retrieved image is stored on your device. Automatic artwork download is off unless you enable it, and on iPhone and iPad it never applies to Apple Music content.
If you paste an image URL, Maxzero downloads the image from that address.
Lyrics and web searches
Maxzero never fetches lyrics or searches the web by itself. The Find lyrics at lrclib.net, Search Google, and Search Google Images buttons open those websites with the song's details as the search. Anything you do there is governed by those websites' privacy policies.
Wi-Fi Server
The Wi-Fi Server runs a small web server on your device so you can move files to and from a computer on the same local network. Files travel directly between your device and your computer over your own network; they do not pass through any Maxzero server, because there are none. You can protect it with a PIN, and it runs only while Maxzero is open and the server is switched on. On Android, files you upload are saved to the Music/Maxzero folder on your phone.
Other permissions
- Local network iPhone & iPad Maxzero asks for local network access so it can reach media servers on your home network and run the Wi-Fi Server. You can turn this off at any time in iOS Settings. Android doesn't require a separate permission for this.
- Notifications Android Maxzero shows a media notification with playback controls while music is playing. It does not send any other notifications.
- Internet: used only to connect to the servers you add and for the artwork lookup described above.
No tracking
Maxzero contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs on any platform. We do not build a profile of you and have no way to identify you.
Deleting your data
You stay in control of your data:
- Disconnect a media server or WebDAV share to remove its sign-in and cached files.
- Use Clear Cache in Settings to remove cached artwork and song information.
- Delete the app to remove everything Maxzero has stored on your device.
- iPhone & iPad: delete songs and folders in the File Manager tab or through the Wi-Fi Server. Data synced through iCloud is stored in your iCloud account and is managed through your Apple Account's iCloud settings. Deleting a playlist, favorite, tag edit, or lyric in Maxzero also removes it from iCloud.
- Android: deleting the app does not delete your music files, which belong to you and stay on your phone. Maxzero's data in your Google backup can be managed in your Google account or Android backup settings.
Children's privacy
Because Maxzero collects no personal data, it collects none from children.
